Freienfeld is situated only a few kilometers south of the alpine city of Sterzing / Vipiteno on the old Brenner pass road. Freienfeld near Sterzing is a paradise for your hiking and active holidays. For the brave ones a rafting trip full of adventure in the Eisack River awaits. The Brenner-Bozen cycling route, part of the famous Munich-Venice cycle route, runs through the municipality of Freienfeld in the South Tyrolean Wipptal.

For the winter there are several ice rinks, toboggan runs and ski touring opportunities. The Rosskopf skiing and hiking area is only a few minutes away from Freienfeld, and the cross-country ski trail in the Pfitsch Valley is easily accessible.
